Charity Event for Monk Andria Foundation

Natalia Tutberidze

GZAAT was and still remains an often host of numerous charities and fundraisers. Unfortunately, the pandemic set back the number of events that could be hosted, naturally due to the regulations and health hazards. However, in this time of hardship, students still manage to help the people in need. One of these charity events right now at our school is accepting donations to help The Monk Andria Foundation.

The Monk Andria Foundation helps children with terminal illnesses from all over Georgia. The Charity that is taking place at GZAAT has two options that you can donate to: either bring the things to school and put them in the designated charity box, and the other option is to call the organization and they’ll come to your address and take your donation. This is possible to do before the 20th of November. Donations come not only from GZAAT, but from all over Tbilisi.

This charity is actually a part of a bigger organization called Motus. In an interview with one of the organizers of this charity, Mariam Ezugbaia said that the idea for this organization was born during the first quarantine. Because of the regulations, they realized that it’d be very hard to get the number of donations wanted with a physical event, so they got creative and hosted a series of online lectures, to which they sold tickets. Teachers from GZAAT, Levan Gigineishvili and Ruso Abramidze were the ones to deliver these lectures. This is one of the few other charity events that Motus organized. They also translated, published and sold books with the help of Levan Ghambashidze. The money from these books went to charte.ge, who helps kids in rural parts of Georgia get access to the internet and laptops.

While interviewing Mariam, she told us that there were two reasons as to why they chose the Monk Andria Foundation this time to donate to. One reason was that they are one of the only places that allow people to visit (with proper precautions) and donations during the pandemic. The second reason is that they help children with diseases like leukemia. So Motus decided to host this charity and help the kids in need.

Mariam says that there aren’t any ideas for future projects. Since this is her last year of school, there isn’t much time left to accomplish many projects, but she’ll do anything time will let her.
