Not even a world pandemic can stop us from doing the charity and spreading the love! Charity projects have always been an important part of the GZAAT community. Besides the fact that these charity projects were for good cause, they brought unity and joy into the school community.
Unfortunately, because of the Coronavirus these types of events can no longer take place in our school. For example, the annual charity project C.O.A.T.S did not happen because of the COVID-19. But with the initiative of the School Culture Committee from this week a new charity project begins. They are planning to raise money for a teacher, Lado Apkhazava, who teaches in a village near Lanchkhuti. Because of the new reality, internet connection is essential to receive education. Unfortunately, most of the kids in this region cannot afford internet payment. Mr. Apkhazava is helping his students and is trying to collect money for them. Besides, he is using donations for internet payment. Also this money is spent on medicine and food for those families who can't afford it. In the conversation with the School Culture Committee he says, “I already collected money to buy computers and smartphones for the students. But unfortunately, this money was not enough to pay their internet bill”.
In the interview, the members of the School Culture Committee say “the teachers Lika Nizharadze and Nana Gabelia brought this topic to them and asked whether our school can help him or not”. Then members arranged the meetings with parents’ council and with class representatives, so they helped the committee to spread the information. Students and parents already received emails about this project and many of them already made donations. As Lado Apkhazava said in the conversation with the School Culture Committee “the donations that were made during these days were enough to buy food for 12 families that could not afford it themselves”.
Unfortunately, this project is nothing like the ones we had while being in the school, so there won’t be a bake sale, or handmade goods sale, but if we try we can still make it work!. Everyone who wishes to help Lado Apkhazava should transfer money to the account. It’s really great that, even though there is a pandemic, our school still plans interesting charity events and as the members of the committee hope these types of projects will strengthen school spirit and bring unity to the community even more!
