We, students, often think that our productivity and ability of coming up with ideas is limited to the school and doing homework. But in reality, our life goes on outside the school, and we are capable of creating amazing things that do not consist in the school curriculum. Excellent example of this is a 10th grader of GZAAT, Giorgi Kakhiani who created an entire project alongside with his friends, that aims to spread awareness about one of the most important problems for our nation, conflict between Russia and Georgia. The project especially targets the issue of occupation. Here is an interview that I conducted with Giorgi Kakhiani, regarding his platform.
Interviewer: Who are in the head of this project?
Giorgi Kakhiani: Online platform Georgian Liberty was founded by me and my friends, Nikusha Sirbiladze and Nika Khabelashvili.
Interviewer: How did the idea of creating such a project come to your mind and why did you create this project in general?
Giorgi Kakhiani: We found out that information about Georgia’s occupied territories and conflict between Russia and Georgia was extremely scarce, unreliable, and in most situations inaccessible in the internet space. Awareness about these topics in the new generation was low. We decided to create a platform where comprehensive and real information about the history of Russian annexation and occupation would be presented in various ways.
Interviewer: Thank you. It seems to be a very interesting project, but what is its main purpose, what does it aim to achieve?
Giorgi Kakhiani: This project has two main purposes. The first purpose is to raise awareness about these topics in Georgian society, especially in the new generation. After some time, this generation will start to get involved in political processes and if awareness about this topic will be low, it will lose actuality, so the resistance to Russian occupation will decrease. Another important goal of this project is to deliver real information, which will be free from Russian propaganda, to people all around the world.
Interviewer: Wow! For now, it looks as this project has a bright future, as it aims the new generation of Georgians. But as the time passes, what are some changes and improvements you are going to implement in regards to this platform?
Giorgi Kakhiani: We will constantly update the content on our website and social media. Also, we are working on making the website more user-friendly. At this time, we are in the process of meeting and negotiating with the interested companies
who are ready to provide us with financial resources. After this process, we will organize some events, for example charity events, which will help war victims and veterans, and so on. Furthermore, we are working on another very important issue, communication with Abkhazian and Ossetian people. We will announce the updates about this topic in the near future.
Overall, this project has a great potential to evolve into an even serious platform. Such things are very important, because newer generations must know what has happened in the past, especially when this past is about conflict between our own and our neighboring country. This project is called Georgian Liberty, and as mentioned above they have an entire online platform. But the thing, probably, that makes this project so special is that it is created by average teenagers, which are interested in their country’s fate.
