It is around Christmas time, but are we all in the Christmas spirit? I know that the coronavirus has brought many changes to our lives, but it is important to keep a positive attitude, especially during these times. As you know, GZAAT hosts a Christmas party each winter around the end of the school. As a partial substitution for the party, Mr. Cruz decided to create an online assembly. “We have decided to host assemblies online to celebrate Christmas and the end of this difficult year of 2020,” says Mr. Cruz. The meetings are dedicated to students telling about their outside school activities and saying goodbyes for the Holidays. “Well, I think the online meeting that Mr. Cruz is hosting will more or less be an online substitution of Christmas party.” Said one of the 9th Graders, “However, nothing can compare to attending it in person.”
I agree with my classmates that nothing could be compared to the real Christmas party at school. Plus, we played secret Santa at school last year. But this year we can not do that because of many regulations.
I wanted to interview one of my classmates- Mariam Kvaratskhelia - about this topic and ask her some questions.
Interviewer: As you know, we had a Christmas party at school last year. What do you think could be done as a substitution for the party?
Mariam: Honestly, I don't think that there's anything that could be done. As much as I'd love to see my friends and go to a Christmas party, I don't think that's a responsible thing to do. Covid19 cases are rising every day, so instead, I think staying home for the holidays this year is the best decision.
Interviewer: Are you in a Christmas spirit :)?
Mariam: Sadly not.
Interviewer: Why? Go now, make some popcorn and hot chocolate, get cozy, and watch movies! If you have nothing to watch, just read our articles with movie and tv show suggestions.
I also wanted to ask some of my classmates about what they are planning to do during Christmas. “It’s been a hard year. This New Year will be an extraordinary one, but I am still staying positive! We are planning to celebrate it at home with the whole family. If there will be no curfew on December 31, we will invite some of our relatives to our house. It would be awesome if some of my friends and I could meet up, but of course, following covid 19 regulations to stay safe,” says Nitsa Saakashvili. Also, Nino Ioseliani says: “The coronavirus has brought many changes with it. So this New Year celebration will be totally different. We will celebrate at home with my family, and if there will be no curfew, we will go to my grandma’s home and spend the night there. I hope I will be able to go out with my friends and have fun, but judging from the situation in the country, I am not sure.” Yes, coronavirus has brought many changes with it, but it’s important to stay positive during these times. We can make the New Year and Christmas celebrations really fun at home too!
Many 9th grade students aren’t in a Christmas spirit, so I want to cheer you all up with some ideas of what you can do for Christmas this year! First of all, if you haven’t done it already, go and decorate your house! It will get you all cheered up and ready for this year’s celebration. Also, bake something. Make cookies, for example. You can also host a gingerbread house competition with your family; I guarantee you, decorating and building beautiful edible houses will be really fun. Also, something that will get you brightened up and happy is a Christmas karaoke. You could invite a few friends over or do it with your family. Trust me, it will make your day. And finally, something that has caught my attention is the hot chocolate bombs! They are super easy and fun to make.
The recipe suggests the following: “melt the chocolate in the microwave in 15- to 20-second intervals, stirring in between. Using a semi-sphere silicone mold, line the sides with a thin-but-sturdy layer of the melted chocolate. Place the mold in the freezer for 5 to 10 minutes to allow the chocolate to set. Once solid, carefully remove the spheres from the mold and transfer them to a working surface. Fill half of the spheres with the toppings of your choice— (personally, I used hot cocoa powder and mini marshmallows but sprinkles also work well). Run a plate under hot water until it’s warm to the touch and gently place the open edges of the remaining, empty semi-spheres overtop until they begin to melt slightly. Cover the hot chocolate-filled halves with an empty, semi-melted half to seal the chocolate globe. Chill in the freezer for 5 to 10 minutes until completely set before serving,” Cool huh?
I hope this was enough to cheer you up. Just try these fun activities with your family. I hope that these will slightly help you cheer up and be ready for Christmas and new year.
