Learn Math with TiMa: Passion Turned Into a Project

Masho Khatiashvili

‘Learn Math with TiMa’ is a project by two juniors Tika Nazrishvili and Mariam Khaduri. It is a new educational Youtube Channel that focuses on deepening the understanding and offering thorough explanations of mathematical concepts in a comprehensive and engaging way. For broader information, we asked them a few questions about the project.

What is ‘Learn Math with TiMa’?

Mariam: Learn Math with TIMA is our passion project, and as it is clear from its name, it mainly focuses on mathematics. Through our project, we want to share our accumulated knowledge and spread awareness of the beauty and practicality of mathematics.

When and why did you start the project ‘Learn Math with TiMa’?

Tika: We launched this project about two months ago.

Our main goal was to create informative content centered around the science which we are both passionate and enthusiastic about. It can be said that this project allowed us to merge our two central passions: helping others in their academic duties and comprehending math.

Also, it happens quite often that students understand the explanations of their peers very well. It is very logical because we realize how we would grasp the specific topic, and we use our personal perspectives and attitudes for explaining math thoroughly and interestingly.

Is it hard to be the creator of a project like this? What is the process that you guys go through?

Mariam: When you love what you do, then nothing is hard! :) Of course, it is very time-consuming and takes weeks of planning, but it is all worth the result we get. The process mainly includes planning out the curriculum and then working on the details of each video. As you might have already noticed, in the videos, each of us talks on the separate subtopics of the topic of the video:) We do this to maximize our potential and efficiently work on our videos. After we divide our parts, then for several days, we do research and collect our material. Then, using the digital drawing tablet and microphone, we record our videos, and go to the last step, which is editing. The editing takes around 3-4 hours of work.

Tika: Because it is such a big responsibility to be the creator of such a project, the working process is loaded. But the procedure is also exciting, diverse, engaging, creative, and pleasing.

Are there any other things that you are planning for the future?

Mariam: Yes, of course! Our main goal is to progress and grow as much as possible! We already work on improving and supplementing the details, for example, adding the Georgian subtitles to our videos to make them more accessible for Georgian students.

Tika: Yes, we are planning various exciting novelties. We’re always looking for the development of our project and offering it so that it is engaging and understandable for everyone.

Do you think projects like this are important and even necessary?

Mariam: Projects like these allow one part of people to share their acquired knowledge and another one to obtain it. For us, projects like these connect people of the same interest, which is never a bad idea, unlike the idea itself is wretched :) Thus, we both think that projects like these are important and valuable; otherwise, we wouldn't start one ourselves!

Tika: Considering the current developments due to COVID-19, the video lessons are becoming more popular, essential, and valuable. This kind of project allowed us to offer very interesting video lessons that are accessible and understandable for everyone and helped us acquire wonderful experiences and develop various skills and abilities.

You both are in your junior year, which is one of the busiest years in high school. How do you manage to have time to be involved in this project?

Mariam: You know, Friedrich Nietzche once said: "He who has a why to live can bear almost any how." :) For me, if you truly want to have time for something, you will have it! One can never be so busy not to find the time to spend on the things they love! Even though the junior year is the busiest one in high school, because of our passion and enthusiasm, we find the spare time available to work on our projects outside the school, without them affecting our academic performance.

Tika: We managed to create this project with an enormous desire, interest, passion, good time management, and equal work distribution. We both wanted this project to be of the highest quality and put an enormous effort into achieving this goal. We planned it in a way that does not affect our academic performance. At the beginning of the week, we prepare our whole schedule in detail - what are the things we have to do separately, what are the things we have to perform together, and the days and hours we will meet to share our work. Because we both are enthusiastic and highly responsible about this project, we manage to perform the tasks according to our detailed schedule.
