Let's Help Monk Andrew Foundation

The GZAAT School Culture Committee organizes the fundraising for Monk Andrew Foundation. GZAAT students want to raise money to renovate one of the rooms of the building of the fund built for the children diagnosed with cancer. The room will carry the name of The Guivy Zaldastanishvili American Academy. Monk Andrew Foundation is the only foundation in Georgia that takes care of the rehabilitation of children and adolescents diagnosed with cancer and helps families prolong their children’s lives by improving their quality of life. Their goal is to create the first complete rehabilitation center for children with cancer in Caucasia.

Due to the economic issues caused by Covid-19 in Georgia, the income of the fund has been greatly reduced. They can not implement projects, promotions, and activities, which are their main source of maintenance. Because of these circumstances, they are in need of help and our community can surely support them. We interviewed one of the members of the School Culture Committee, Ana Tvaladze, to find out more about the fund and the plan to help it.

The Interviewer: What is the purpose of the fund? Who is helped and supported by it?

Ana: The fund starts supporting children with cancer and their families when children are first diagnosed. They live in this house built by the foundation and get psychological, material, and moral support. The creator of the fund, Tinatin, has lost monk Andria to cancer, so because of her unfortunate experience, she knows how to support both parents of the patients and the children. It is completely sustained by donations from people. But now that they’ve built their own house, they are planning to start small businesses, so they won’t be dependent on donations completely. For example, they are planning to sell baked goods. They also have special rooms for children to learn sewing and woodworking.

The Interviewer: What necessities does the fund have that we can help with?

Ana: Their main necessity is money. Children and their parents live there and pay neither for a room nor for the food.

The Interviewer: How do you plan to support the fund?

Ana: As I’ve already mentioned they have built a house but they need to renovate the rooms. They are trying to find

sponsors that will help financially with that task. These rooms are then given the name of the company/institution that decorated and aided the building the room. So, we are planning to raise funds to refurbish one of the rooms in the building, and the room will carry the name of GZAAT. Overall, we need at least 13000 Lari, half of the amount will be provided by the school but we have to raise the rest of the money with the help of donations.

It is important for all of us to contribute to the fundraising. “Children should be healthy and happy, there should always be a smile on their face, and our foundation does everything possible to ensure that this smile does not disappear from our children. Although without your support we can do nothing, your involvement is vital” says Tinatin. With your help, our community can make sure that children do not forget to smile.
