Great news! GZAAT teachers will conduct lectures about topics engaging for the students. With online learning, it’s difficult to get to know your teacher, so this project will give students an opportunity to develop better relationships with teachers, get to know them better by spending more time with them, and lastly deepen their knowledge about the topics they’re interested in. This great initiative was started by the School Culture Committee, so I decided to interview one of the members, Ana Tvaladze.
Interviewer: Where did the idea come from? What is the purpose of this project?
Ana: GZAAT welcomed guest speakers almost every week for years and they gave us interesting lectures about different topics. This year we decided to make a project which has a similar format. But the speakers will be the teachers of our school. This will strengthen the relationships between students and teachers. Students will be able to meet the teachers that they have never met before, or if they aren’t in the class of the particular teacher.
Interviewer: What will the lectures be about?
Ana: The teachers will come up with the topic of their choice. They are sending us the topic and the date of their choice and we arrange the meetings.
Interviewer: How can the students sign up for the lectures?
Ana: The week before the lecture we will send the students the google form and those who are interested in the topic will be able to sign up for the lecture.
Interviewer: What are some of the topics? When will the project start and for how long will it continue?
Ana: Even though some teachers wrote to us that they want to participate in the project, most of them did not come up with the topics. The lectures will continue till the end of the year and will be scattered throughout it.
I also interviewed some of the teachers, who are going to engage in this project, to find out their impressions and the topics they are going to have lectures about. One of those teachers that I interviewed is the biology teacher Malkhaz Makashvili.
Interviewer: What are your thoughts about this project?
Mr. Malkhaz: It’s a great project, I will have the opportunity to meet the students whom I personally don’t teach.
Interviewer: What will the first topic of your lecture be?
Mr. Malkhaz: "How you can become a slave of yourself".
Interviewer: When will you conduct your lecture?
Mr. Malkhaz: My lecture is planned for 12 December.
Another teacher I interviewed is GZAAT chemistry teacher, Tamar Mamulashvili, who will also have a lecture for the students:
Mrs. Tamar: My impressions about this project are quite positive: it is supposed to, and, most probably will, fill the gap of informal communication between students and the teachers. My first topic of the lecture will be "Global versus local environmental challenges".
Interviewer: Why would you recommend the students to attend the lectures?
Mrs. Tamar: It’s Informative, plus informal communication that should contribute to both educational and communication goals. My lectures will hopefully start in the middle of December.
Some teachers think that the topics of lectures should be chosen with the students, according to their wish and interests. When interviewed, our Georgian language teacher Ruso Abramidze, answered: “I think that it would be better if we ask the students which topic would be the most interesting for them to discuss...this way, the lectures will be more effective. I would recommend the students to attend the lectures because I think the lectures will help them develop a critical point of view in the future.”
Whether it is students who choose the topic, or the teachers, the lectures will still be informative, plus the above-mentioned interviews show just how important they will be for the well-being of our community. In times of great gaps in communication between teachers and students, they provide a fantastic way to unite us.
I want to thank the GZAAT teachers who participated in the interviews! I hope that the students will find the lectures interesting!
