School Clubs: First Steps to Future Career Choices

Updated: Nov 10, 2020

Have you ever wanted to join a club but didn’t know which one would be helpful for the career you want to pursue or would suit your interests the best? If your answer is yes, keep reading! Fortunately, GZAAT offers its students a variety of clubs that will be beneficial for them further in life. All of the clubs are interesting in their way, and it might be overwhelming trying to choose which one to join. There are five clubs in particular that the students in GZAAT might find interesting to improve their understanding of their future career choices and engage in the activities they plan to choose as their future jobs.

The first such club is The Broadcasting Club. If you’re interested in pursuing a career in journalism, then this club is a great choice for you. You will be able to report the news about different topics and post them on the club’s Youtube channel. Filming these videos will improve your speaking skills and will help you get used to talking to a big audience. As a member of the Broadcasting Club, you will gain experience in journalism and learn new skills in video production. This experience will give you an idea of what this field is all about.

Next, if you are interested in photography and usually find yourself taking photos of different moments or scenes you like, the Photography Club is a good fit for you. In this club, you will not only be able to advance your photography skills, but you will also meet new people who share the same interest as you and explore new places from a whole different perspective. You will also get more familiar with different ways to use a camera and learn the art of taking photos professionally. The club will help you express yourself through pictures and improve your creativity while also helping you develop more technical skills in photography.

GZAAT Seniors at the 2020 Model UN Conference in New York City

If you are interested in politics and international relations, the Model UN club would be a good opportunity for you to expand your knowledge in the field. In this club, you will be able to discuss global issues and gain a better understanding of them. When I interviewed my friend about this club, she said - “I’ve only attended one meeting of the club, and I like it a lot. We discussed some issues around the world, and I was able to express my opinion well. I was not interested in these kinds of things in the past, but after attending this meeting, I want to learn more and more. Overall, I think that this club is a great place for me and everyone else because it not only teaches us about the global crisis, but how to talk, listen, analyze, and discuss things with people.”

If you are interested in culinary or want to master your skills to cook for your family and friends, the Cooking Club is the club you want to join. You will learn to cook dishes from many foreign countries and spend your free time during the quarantine. Being able to cook is a great skill regardless of whether you choose to become a chef or not. Cooking is the kind of specialty that you will need to know while living alone, studying in college, etc.

The last club I would like to suggest to the reader is the Programming club. In this club, you will learn to work with Java and create games, websites, etc. If you are thinking of choosing a career that is in a technical field, mainly computer science and coding, joining this club will be a great opportunity for you. You’ll be able to experiment with different programs and technologies and learn to code.

There are many other clubs that you’ll be able to join, but I suggest the five clubs discussed in the article: The Broadcasting Club, the Photography Club, the Model UN club, the Cooking Club, and the Programming Club. All of the clubs are still open to new students and will be very helpful in learning more about the profession you want to choose in the future.

Very informative article. Thanks for a neat write-up. I would add that coding skills in Java, Python (and R) might come handy even when one pursues a career in Business, Economics, Finance, Social & Behavioral Sciences. To learn more on this topic, I would recommend "A brief introduction to Python for psychological science research" on APA's website at https://www.apa.org/science/about/psa/2019/07/python-research
