Social Responsibility and Its Importance During the Pandemic

Social responsibility refers to people's duty to cooperate with others for the interest of their society. It is not only important in everyday life but also in businesses, environmental issues, and so on. Contributing to your community is always very important, but especially now, during the time of COVID19. Since the start of the pandemic, the world has completely changed. Things that were normal before are now things that we can only imagine doing. But with not being able to have fun anymore come many responsibilities that we need to consider to help the world get through these times. They matter not only for our own health but for the health of people around us.

I conducted a survey where I asked GZAAT students about what responsibilities we have during the pandemic and why they are important. Most students had similar opinions about the topic. The responsibilities that everyone agreed on include social distancing, wearing masks, washing your hands, generally following the instructions provided by health organizations and authorities, and many more. As for their importance, everyone agreed that these regulations not only help us but everyone else around us and can help end the virus.

Social distancing

Social distancing is one of the most important things to do to avoid the spreading of the virus. Being six feet apart from others might be very hard, but it's crucial for our safety.

Wearing masks is also important, especially during times when you are in crowded places. Masks, even though they're not 100 percent reliable, have a big influence on reducing the spread of the virus.

Washing the hands, even though it's pretty obvious, is, of course, very crucial. Since the virus is transmitted through your mouth, nose, and eyes, it's essential to wash your hands so that all the bacteria doesn't come close to your face. Of course, it's not only important because of COVID19. Washing your hands is just basic hygiene and helps us avoid all the other viruses too.

It's also vital that in case of symptoms, we get tested because we never know if someone that we’ve been in contact with has the virus.

There are many more things that we can do. For example, people who've already been infected can donate their plasma; it would help because now it would contain antibodies, which would help others fight the virus.

Of course, there are so many more responsibilities that we, as a community, have during this pandemic. These are just a few basic examples of things we can do to contribute to help save lives. One person's decision can have an effect on so many others, which is why it is important to think before we act.

Covid has been around for around nine months, giving us time to adapt to the changes that came with it. Even though sometimes it's still hard to understand what's actually happening in the world, it's essential that we keep calm and just understand that whatever that is that we're giving up, we're doing it for the benefit of the people that we care about. For issues like this, we need to come together and realize that every single choice we make, we make for ourselves, for our friends, our families, people we care about, and for people we don't even know. Our social responsibility today is more relevant than ever.
