At AAT students and teachers offer a wide variety of extracurricular clubs. What activities are done in these clubs are often suggested by their names like, at the Anime club students discuss recently watched animes, at the Gazette club students write articles about interesting topics and new events, but one club, which doesn’t apply to this naming strategy is the Marmor club. Therefore, many of the students don’t know what this club is or what is its purpose. That's why this article is going to discuss the Marmor club from the perspective of its members.
It is not surprising that the club has raised many questions among AAT students. After all, it has only started functioning this year. The club’s founder is our junior student, Nicolas (Nikoloz) Sharvashidze. When asked what is the Marmor club he answered this, “ The Marmor Club is a political club, which aims to increase the prominence of Georgia in the western world. The term Marmor is Latin for marble, which is a sincere nod to the ancient Greeks and Romans.” Much like other clubs, the Marmor club has meetings once a week. One of the members of the club, NIkusha Pataridze describes the club to be an interesting gathering place, where they discuss politics and topics not often mentioned in class. Their weekly meetings yield conclusions such as describing Lobbyists as “Corruption with extra steps” since it allows companies to get their interests made into laws by funding politicians.
The club has contact with U.S. politicians and university alumni, like Madison Cawthorn, a congressman-elect of North Carolina. He is also the youngest congressman in U.S history. The club prepares and participates in a lot of projects like the Kant Academy’s GIMUN where our students accepted the titles of best, outstanding, and honorable delegates. The members have also been accepted to attend the Harvard MUN program.
The members have also launched an anti-voter fraud campaign called RED & BLUE. Marmor club is a perfect opportunity for the students, who are interested in politics and debates, it allows them to gain worldwide connections and participate in projects of such scale. It is also important to note that the current president of the club wants it to continue functioning long after he finishes AAT and plans to elect a future president.
The Marmor club is surely a great addition to our school’s wide variety of clubs. The club has potential for great success well beyond the in-school recognition. everyone can reach out to them without hesitation on Instagram @marmor_club.
