2020 has been an unusual year. The global pandemic turned the world upside down. While it is hard being stuck at home, quarantine has given us more free time than we had. As many people love watching movies or tv series in their free time, I decided to compose the list of few recommendations, for you to get comfy for the night-inside and enjoy.
After surveying the 9th graders about their movie and tv show preferences, I gathered an interesting list. The answers varied since people have different tastes, but there were some movies and tv shows which many people enjoyed. One of the most popular answers was a tv series named "Euphoria."
"Euphoria" is a teen drama featuring two 17-year-old characters: a girl named Rue, a drug addict who just got out of rehab, and a Junior Jules, a transgender girl. The show follows their journey as they fall in love. Some of the other characters include their classmates, who represent different labels with different teenage problems. After interviewing my classmates about their favorite character, the majority said that it was Rue. One of the reasons for this is that she has gone through a lot, and has stayed strong through the toughest times. She had a big character development, which makes Rue a fan favorite. There are several reasons why this show is so popular. One of the most eye-catching parts of "Euphoria" is its visual side. Starting from their makeup looks and outfits to the excellent casting choice, all line up together creating beautiful artistic scenes. All the visuals are eye-pleasing, and all blend very well. Another quality of the show "Euphoria" that makes it so likable is relatability. The show represents many problems teenagers experience, which makes it one of the best shows that teens can watch. It is very relatable and beautiful, which makes the show a perfect candidate to end up on your watch list.
Another popular choice in tv-shows was "Stranger Things." This show consists of 3 seasons, and the fourth is in the making. The first season was released in 2016, the second in 2017, and the third in 2019 (on the fourth of July). The first season is set in 1983 following the story of 4 boys, Will Byers, Mike Wheeler, Lucas Sinclair, and Dustin Henderson in Indiana, Hawkins. After the disappearance of Will Byers, his three friends are determined to find their friend. The police chief Jim Hopper takes the disappearance seriously and sets up search groups to find Will. When the three boys are seeking for Will, they find a str
ange girl in the woods who has escaped from "a bad place" - Hawkins lab. They take her under a shelter, and this way, a new character- Eleven is introduced. Later we find out that El (short for Eleven) isn't a normal girl; she has these telekinetic powers, which amaze the boys. The lost boy's mother, Joyce Byers, is worried and is doing everything to help the police find Will. Joyce finds out the reason for Will's disappearance. But to find out what happens next, you have to watch the rest of "Stranger Things." One of the things that makes this an amazing show is the cast. Their bond behind and on scenes is outstanding and makes the show fantastic. Moreover, the plot is astonishing. Maybe it is not the most relatable show, but the acting level is so high that they make it seem like you're a part of their story. All the CGI, visuals, the cast, and the plot add up to making an amazing show to watch.
Now, let’s move on to the movies. After checking the information from the survey, I noticed that movies varied even more than tv shows did. But there was one movie that many 9th graders enjoyed watching - “Clueless.” “Clueless” is about a high school student Cher - a rich, popular, and pretty girl, who helps Tai, the new girl in school, get popular. In the process of helping Tai to get a boyfriend, she catches feelings herself. This movie is one of the original teen romcoms. Everything that Cher says is iconic, making this movie a fun one to watch. Three words would be enough to describe this movie: hilarious, entertaining, and iconic.
Nowadays, we are stuck at home with a lot of free time on our hands. Watching tv shows and movies could be one of the best ways to spend this time in entertainment. I hope that my suggestions helped you to decide what to watch next, and most importantly, I wish you to stay at home and stay safe.
